Decorative Concrete
By James Belville
Decorative concrete can be considered as types of decorative patterns, textures, colored, stamped, overlays, concrete coatings, acid stain, countertops concrete flooring and resurfacing.
Decorative concrete is just that, decorate, embed, color, texture or stain. Using Iron oxide colorants colors of reds, yellows and blacks. Chromium is used for greens and Ultramarine used for blues. These metals can be mix to create a master peace. Other color pigment are synthetic and come in concentrated liquid form.

Pouring concrete in a cast or form like a decorative concrete countertops, should be vibrated to condense material, filling voids in the matrix increasing strength. After consolidating concrete into place surface is rodded (screeded) off evenly from form to form, then refined to a smooth surface using a wood or magnesium float to a uniform consistency. Color can be added into the concrete mix before consolidating into place or applied after blending in color hardener with a float. A stencil pattern can be applied to the concrete then worked in slightly before color or decorating begins. Decorative concrete countertops embedded with sea shells, brass, copper, turquoise, coins, aggregate or added colors or any combination will look great. Texture concrete counter tops using stamp patterns and texture mats, leaves, branches, flowers, foot prints of birds and animals, or floats and trowels using a circular motion.
Acid Stain reacts chemically with minerals in the concrete creating the color. Acid Stain is made from salts mixed with acid to penetrate the pours in the top 1/16 inch surface. Color is determined by mineral content throughout the concrete. Test the acid stain solution on the concrete, determine the strength needed to reach desired color. The acid stain is applied using acid resistant mop, roller, brush or sprayer. Once the stain is allowed to dry to the correct color, the acid is then neutroilized with ammonia and water stopping the reaction. After the surface is allowed to dry, polyurethane or wax is used to seal the surface.
Decorative Concrete can be almost anything with acrylic coatings. The advantages of using decorative acrylics, almost any look can be achieved, stamped, stained or textured, the different possibilities only end at the end of your imagination. Another advantage of using acrylic decorative concrete coatings, most of the time not all concrete will not need to be removed, minor cracks can be filled with epoxy and later grinded down smooth and not seen. Concrete that has heaved can be grown down, or built up using a high strength cement, silica sand and glue. With all the different available colors for decorative concrete, it’s easy to closely match house colors, not only to look beautiful, but add on a certain value to your home. Your concrete surface will look new for many years to come.

Remodel Your Home With Less Cost
By Peter S. Mason
A swanky and beautifully done up dream house surely tops the wish list of each one of us. As we go around building are materialistic possessions, we develop visions of how are abode should look like and continuously strive to achieve the same. However, we are sure all will agree, the costs and expenses involved remain the biggest dampeners.
Remodeling your home can involve enormous costs, which can spiral out of your moderate budget, very often leaving you exasperated and helpless.
The Way Out!
So, in face of shooting prices and staggering amounts, do you just sit back and let your dreams dissolve into thin air? Or are you wise enough to sit down with a calm mind and astute vision to develop a plan of your own? If in the latter category, we might just have some useful tips for you. Smartness and lifestyle do not come as much from money as it comes from class and your own sense of style.
Take a keen look at your surroundings. Analyze what minor and major changes you can make that might not cost that much, but can indeed give your house that much required look of class and elegance. Experts suggest beginning with small but significant aspects of your house such as the countertops, kitchen fixtures, bathroom sittings and floor coverings. The catch here is to add a touch of renovation to those parts of the house which come in direct vision of an onlooker and add strategic value to your house.
Another easier way to save on the costs is to try to take on a majority of remodeling tasks yourself, without allocating or outsourcing the jobs. This not only saves you an ample amount of money but also enables you to directly apply your vision. However, especially when doing it yourself, make sure you invest only in the best quality raw materials and fittings for a good experience later. You’ll also want to make sure you have the right tools, such as table saws or air compressors for the job.
The Added Benefit
Now, the newly done up and remodeled house might make you feel like a king, with all its royalty, but there is another added benefit to it. A remodeled home with a contemporary touch is likely to fetch you a much higher price when you decide to put up your house on sale. Buyers are most often interested in purchasing a property that will require the minimum amount of remodeling and renovation. The new owner will rather want to add another classy touch to the house than spend his hard-earned money on merely renovating an older property.

Installing clean, reliable, inflation-proof solar power is easier than ever, thanks to the invention of thin-film photovoltaic (PV) laminates that can be bonded directly onto metal roofing panels. Unlike crystalline PV material, there’s no need for obtrusive racks and heavy, expensive glass. Instead, unbreakable thin-film PV is produced using amorphous silicon, encapsulated in Teflon and other polymers.
